Background:

Peter Heke's mixed heritage was not exactly the most important thing on his mind while growing up. He was always too busy running around and being a young boy, or harassing his sister to think much on such things. He was wild when not under supervision, and somehow managed to be just inside acceptable behavior for a kid his age. He really didn't see any reason to adjust his behavior, but found things to be simpler when he didn't fight unnecessary battles with the adults. His parents thought he was a little angel by comparison to his sister Jasmine, which like most young boys, he abused in the early years relentlessly. In later years he started developing a sense of responsibility, and while he did his level-best to have fun and drive his family nuts, he started trying to help out when people really needed it.

Peter's life seemed rather easygoing and sedate to start, but that perception came to a screeching halt about three months after his twelfth birthday. Peter woke up in a cold sweat frequently, sometimes screaming. He heard voices, and saw... Things. He couldn't explain it and he was old enough to understand that the adults would think he was going crazy, so he gutted things out, and quietly fought a silent war with his own perceptions, pushing back as he was able. Unfortunately, Peter's ragged behavior only brought attention to his sister, whom was cited as a "bad influence" due to her tendency to show interest in her Maori heritage, and her Grandmother. He didn't like, nor approve of her getting blamed, but there was really nothing he could do. It wasn't until he encountered Uratha for the first time, under the light of the full moon that all was made clear.

Unfortunately, until that time his behavior was punctuated with bouts of unreasoning anger, hostility, and general misbehavior culminated in a few schoolyard brawls. The fights got worse and worse until finally, another student was hospitalized. The confusion and rage drove him to run away from home, seeking... something. It didn't help, the rage and hallucinations got worse.

The encounter with the other Uratha was fast and furious. They tackled, and restrained him just after one of the hallucinatory manifestations pushed him over the edge, into violence. He entered Kuruth for the first time in the quiet suburbs around Perth, less than a mile from home. Six people lost their lives before the Hallow-Guard Pack intervened and dragged him down. When he came to he had to adjust to the fact that he'd just MURDERED six people in a screaming rage. The Hallow-Guards took him in, grudgingly and calmed him down. They drove back the spirits who were tormenting his dreams and vision, and began explaining what he was. His instinctive affinity toward violence didn't earn him a place in the pack, as they already had three Rahu in the pack. He also didn't feel any particularly huge connection to the tribes as yet, and passed on initiation. He had a family to protect, in the middle of no-man's-land territory.

Over the next couple years, Peter developed a fast wit and a knack for stealth and deception. He made alliances with nearby packs, and honored all of his agreements, and carefully called in markers to clean the taint of spiritual corruption around his home and family. It took stealth, guile and a fair amount of out-and-out violence to do. His first battles were horrid experiences, being relegated to helping patch up the wounded, and defending the wounded of other packs who didn't really want an untrained and untried kid in their pack. He wore the badge of "Newbie" for two years. Taking defeat in stride, and holding his minor victories. He slowly gained ground, and learned how to patch himself up, as well as to use knives and short blades he ransacked from fallen foes.

Two years after his change, Peter's open assistance of other young packs paid off. They found themselves asked to help the young Ghost Wolf make a final push to smash out the worst of the problems in the territory that was measured by eight blocks. The spirits were driven out, subdued, or pacted, and Peter held the territory solid, all the while stalking the streets of his neighborhood silently at night. It wasn't easy, nor was it entirely unnoticed.

Peter's family took note of their erswhile child's strange, reticent behavior, and turned to the one obvious influence that could affect him so negatively. They blamed his sister, Jasmine. Her withdrawl into a fantasy life with books and Roleplaying games was punctuated by what, for her parents, was an unhealthy interest in their late grandmother's cultural background. Peter already knew she'd been Uratha, it was obvious from the way his parents talked about her, and the parallels to his life. He was beginning to make his folks uneasy even.

It all cumulated in Jasmine being told she could either go to a camp for disturbed children, or her brother could go in her stead. Peter knew the camp. He'd argued against it, and lost a dominance fight over the whole retarded idea. It wasn't a hope for Uratha, it was a deathtrap for their kin. He couldn't say anything except revert to trying to manipulate events so Jasmine wouldn't be subjected to it. He failed, and Jasmine left. He was trying to convince the older Uratha to allow him near the camp but they would have none of it, until word came that she had been taken by the pure, along with several other candidates. Reports were sketchy on wether or not the wayward kin had shifted.

Peter joined a couple Irraka ninjas in creeping into the area, ahead of their packs. He didn't bother to tell them he was there. When they realized that the cubs had escaped on their own, he and the other packs hit the Pure like a jackhammer. They broke up the pursuit for the cubs and vanished back into the night. He'd lost his sister by mere minutes, and couldn't find any sign of her. He searched for her, but couldn't find her. He simply settled back into his territory, and stalked it like a nightmare given life.

All good things must come to an end, however. Word returned to him and his family that his sister had been killed in an avalanche. Word was that the avalanche wasn't natural. Peter began grimly stalking his territory, determined that his family would be safe, at least. During that period, he shed his Newbie demeanor and became known as a canny veteran of many battles, both seen and unseen. He never fought for glory, he fought for duty. He always honored bargains, no matter how much they hurt him, and he went out of his way to ensure that young Uratha reached teachers who could show them their path. He never sought fights that didn't need fighting, believing them to be unworthy of his time. He kept to himself, and tried not to make too many enemies.

His territory came crashing down when two separate packs decided to annex his territory at once. One pack was a group of young Iron Masters who thought they were the shit. The other pack was a less-young , and thankfully small pack of Ivory Claws. Both wer interlopers, and the Iron Masters treated Peter like an unwanted obstacle. It suited him just fine. He'd gotten to the point where he'd been recognized for his honorable actions, and his purity of purpose several times. He used the stealth he'd learned in his early years, the battle-skill he'd learned on his own, and some pure cunning to drive the two packs at each other's throats, all while weakening them to the point where they could not hold the ground they took.

Peter doesn't know which pack murdered his Mother and Father, and he didn't care. He went all-out, and the resultant conflict savaged the territory to it's core. When the fight was over, Peter was left with a burnt-out shell of his territory, razed spiritually by his vindictive enemies, and a trust fund, left to him by his dead folks. Peter started travelling, and disn't stop.

His days as a Ghost Wolf came to a rapid end when he finally looked to a tribe. Standing alone could only go so far, and while he'd been good, he'd been lucky that he'd held it together for so long. He decided he would be among the best, so he walked up to one of the Veteran Storm Lords and demanded coldly to be tested for the tribe. His purity and Honor were unquestioned, and his battle-skill was proven. They still put him through hell. He was dropped straight into an Azlu-infested area of Cairns, and told to keep them occupied and distracted until help arrived. He rolled through the Azlu area, driving the hosts to distraction trying to pin him down. When help arrived, he was tired, hungry and sore. he was bandaged in a dozen places and suffering from poison. He still stood with the packs that descended upon the confused, milling Azlu, helping bandage the wounded and defending the fallen, as he'd done years before with other uratha packs he was helping.

He swore the oath of the moon under Luna's full face, for the second time in his life, only this time adding Winter Wolf's ban to his oath. He joined the Storm Lords and never looked back. He didn't ask to join a pack, and they didn't ask him to, knowing he'd either forge his destiny and a pack himself or dying trying. He kept walking on, always looking forward. The one thing he did tap his trust fund for was to have two damascene steel Khukuris made for himself, and they have been his weapons of choice for quite some time.

Going to New Zealand was an experience. His grandmother's old pack treated him as intruder until they figured out both who he was, and what he wanted. He was seeking to learn more of his family. They made Peter pay dearly for the information, but he paid it gladly, earning their respect as a solid warrior. The Bone Shadows of his mother's pack gave him a parting gift when he left, the tattoos of a Maori warrior decorated the right side of his face, and he wore them with pride. When he travelled out of New Zealand he discovered a new place to go. Alaska.

Rumor had it that the Alaskan Uratha were living in a frozen hell under siege. The Pacific northwest had been savaged in the Brethren War, and the remaining Uratha were in a desperate holding action, and word was that new blood was actually striking into the heart of the frozen north to take back the cities there. Peter patiently jumped through all the legal hoops and secured a student Visa and enrolled at UAF. He arrived, and immediately began stalking the city of Anchorage as his classes were there for the semester.

The trip to Charter north Mental hospital began innocuously. Some jackasses stole his wallet and his passport, and the cops took him down instead of the three men who were stomping on him. He couldn't simply kill them in public, so he got arrested. The Judge, seeing the report, his claims and the bad vibe she got off of him sent him to Charter North for evaluation. A ridden was there, torturing the patients and making them worse. He wound up staging a one-man mutiny in the dead of night to protect the other patients who were visibly being harmed. Peter threw the ridden bodily through a steel door.

The only thing that kept him out of jail was the fact that he was a foreign national who figured out how to work the system. He contacted the embassy and reported what was going on in the hospital. The ensuing investigation determined that the patients were, in fact being abused. The embassy demanding his release and him screaming threats of lawsuit prompted charter to release him and make a nice settlement out of court. He smiled, left, and killed the ridden in his own home.

Anchorage was a bust, there was nothing there. not even pure. Peter transferred to UAF in Fairbanks and began the semester as a normal student, carefully monitoring the area for signs of Uratha, or spirit misbehavior. He keeps his hands near his kukhuris and watches the world. The spirits have noted his presence and the fact that he's looking like he's here to stay.

Renown

  • Cunning 1: Peter kept the secrets of the Uratha from his family's eyes when he was still a child, convincing them that he was merely an unruly, troubled pre-teen and teenager despite repeated problems.
  • Glory 1: Peter destroyed three ridden, single-handedly defending his meager Territory while still a Ghost Wolf.
  • Glory 2: Peter and two packmates assaulted and annihilated twenty armed wolf-blooded mafia Wise guys working for the Fairbanks Ivory Claws.
  • Honor 1: Peter was honest and accepted punishment without complaint when his actions resulted in a small spirit-court attacked three other Urdaga in retaliation for his actions.
  • Honor 2: Peter negotiated successfully with a local pack for the right to access their Locus, honorably completing his end of the bargain in order to continue the privelage.
  • Honor 3: Peter responded to a mutual defense pact between himself and the aforementioned pack of Urdaga, despite the fact that they had broken the deal for access to the Locus, and was nearly killed in the process.
  • Honor 4: Peter harried and drove two Uratha who were participating in the practice of cannibalism from his territory, into the spirit wilds, banishing them from the territories of the Uratha after confirming the charges and presenting his evidence to the Elodoth near his home and having them confirm his instincts on how they should be judged.
  • Purity 1: Despite his phenomenally foul temper, Peter kept himself in check under fire, tending to the wounded Uratha and defending them as he was as yet not big enough to fully fight on the front lines with most other Uratha.
  • Purity 2: Peter destroyed the Magath ShardWheel in single combat, discorporating the gaffling vehicle/glass elemental abomination, then tracking it back to where it was reforming and destroying it.
  • Purity 3: In the face of the destruction of his territory, and the murder of his parents when two packs warred to annex his territory, Peter did not murder the broken survivors in a rage, instead marking and maiming the survivors and driving them from the area one by one despite whispers that he would have been perfectly justified in slaughtering them.
  • Purity 4: Peter spent three days in a running battle with an Azlu swarm, hitting and running, and harrying the Shartha to keep them occupied while reinforcements were gathered. Peter kept them occupied for the full three days, hunting him rather than spreading out to attack the other Uratha. When the reinforcements came, even poisoned, ill and wounded all over Peter led the charge back in, helping kill the demon-spiders and ending the threat to the local Hisil.
  • Wisdom 1: Peter, early on, curious as a cat, sought out tales of the oath of the moon and took pains to find out what the oath meant to the other uratha of his area, increasing his own understanding of the laws Luna laid down upon the Forsaken.
  • Wisdom 2: Peter led the pack, the Loyal Opposition, for over a year, without losing a single packmate to enemy machinations, claws or blades.
  • Wisdom 3: Peter led members of the Loyal Opposition and the Wayward Souls into the Spirit Wilds to help his sister, Jasmine discover the secrets of a new Ritual. While keeping the Uratha together, and trying to find the way, Peter ferreted out the Incarna that had seen fit to insert himself into the party, recognizing the Wanderer for what he was.

Generally Known Information

Peter Heke is a Storm Lord that isn't always on the forefront of every little problem that crops up. As many Uratha have discovered, Pete's definition of critical and other Uratha's definitions do not always coincide. True to his change at age 11, Peter's understanding of the Oath of the Moon is akin to Christian Childrens' understanding of the 10 Commandments. I.E. "This is the way things are," as a result he very rarely, if ever questions the Oath of the moon or expresses doubts that it should be obeyed.

Peter, while not exactly a pushover in combat ability or personality, is known for his absolute detestation of murderers and cannibals, often taking time to call them to task, or crush the urge to commit such offenses from them without resorting to killing. This isn't to say that he's gentle about it though, far from it in fact.

Known for his penchant for whipping about a pair of finely crafted kukhri short blades, Peter is a whirling dervish of pissed-off Maori, and the Pure local to Fairbanks are loathe to attack or be caught in the open by the Storm Lord for fear that when he is done with them, some sicko like Moonmaw would gleefully follow in Pete's wake and take their lives.

While not the most balanced among the Urdaga, Peter's harmony is stable and he exhibits no odd behaviors or dementia so common to those falling from the path of Harmony.
